The Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium (NEOSCC) will be hosting a series of workshops to create a vision for a Vibrant NEO in the year 2040. Workshops will be two hours long and will be held at various locations throughout the region.  Please feel free to pick the time and location that is most convenient for you, regardless of your county of residence. WKSU, Mark Urycki: If you’d like to build an expressway that links Beachwood to Youngstown, you’ve had your chance to suggest it. Groups of people have been gathering in cities around Northeast Ohio this week to make suggestions about the future growth of the region. It’s all being funded by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Obama Administration is handing out grant money in hopes of saving much larger sums in the long run. The Partnership for Sustainable Communities is an effort by HUD, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. EPA. They’re hoping that better designed communities will mean less waste building new roads and housing developments while the old ones just crumble. Map Library Over 70 maps were created at the six workshops by residents and public officials. We have created a the following galleries for you to look at the different maps. We have had over 100 people attend our first two Open Houses.  Today we will be in Ashtabula and Willowick!  The complete schedule of the remaining eight open houses is listed below.  The Vibrant NEO Open Houses have also been featured in the Vindicator,The Plain Dealer, Youngstown Business Journal, the Canton Repository,  the News Herald, the Tribune-Chronicle, and Freshwater Cleveland.    As part of the Vibrant NEO Engagement Plan, we are committed to providing a variety of ways to engage you in the scenario planning process.  We know that some of you may not be able to make the open houses but your voice is still important to us.  We have created an on-line tool for you to learn about the scenarios and share your thoughts and opinions. Over the course of the last year, the Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium (NEOSCC) engaged residents, elected officials, and experts throughout our 12-county region in a rigorous scenario planning process. Our goal throughout this process has been to work out what choices we can make now that will give our region the greatest chance for success in the future. Two sets of past events drew hundreds of Northeast Ohio residents from all over the region to give their feedback. The final phase of our project will synthesize a shared vision around our region’s priorities and assets based on that feedback—then provide recommendations on how we might get there. This upcoming set of events will present to the public its proposed Vibrant NEO 2040 Vision, a strategic and inspirational roadmap for the future of the region that has been built upon everything we have heard and learned to-date. Our first Vibrant NEO Vision Session event kicked off last night—and we were thrilled to share our presentation with residents in Elyria. There are nine more events coming up in the next two weeks across Northeast Ohio (including one in Akron tonight!), and we wanted to give you a little sneak peek into what you’ll be experiencing. In the Record-Courier today, the paper endorses the Vibrant NEO 2040 Vision saying: The better way to confront our future is to deal with what is here, cleaning up the mess, shouldering our obligations to leave a better world for all. That’s the kind of thinking the people behind Vibrant NEO 2040 are trying to stimulate and hats off to them for doing so. You can read the entire piece here.
